Leadership and Legacy Guiding Our Faith Community

Our Shepherds

The spiritual journey of our community is a testament to the dedicated leadership of those who have shepherded the Diocese of Udaipur. From the initial vision of our founding Bishop to the grace-filled guidance of our current leadership, we remain committed to a mission of prayer, reflection, and compassion. Inspired by the message of Our Lady of Fatima in 1917, we strive to nurture a spirit of devotion that encourages every believer, especially our youth to grow in faith throughout their lives.

The story of our Diocese began with a vision of unity and growth. We remember with deep gratitude Bishop Emeritus Rt. Rev. Dr. Joseph Pathalil, who was ordained as our first Bishop in 1985. For nearly three decades, his faithful service anchored our community, bridging diverse families and strengthening our pastoral care. Today, that sacred mission is carried forward by Rt. Rev. Bishop Dr. Devprasad Ganawa, who has led the Diocese of Udaipur since 2013 with a focus on compassion and spiritual renewal.

Our roots in the “City of Lakes” date back to 1950, beginning with the selfless work of French Capuchin priests who sowed the first seeds of our community. What started as a humble mission has evolved into a thriving spiritual home where our parish priests continue to nurture bonds of hope and faith across generations.

(Bishop Emeritus)

A Life of Dedicated Service (1937–2022) Hailing from the Kottayam District, Bishop Joseph was ordained in 1963. He spent his early years as a dedicated pastor in mission stations like Maska Mahuri and Ambapara before serving twelve years at Holy Spirit Church. When the Lord called him to lead the new diocese in 1984, he rose to the occasion with grace. For twenty seven years, he guided our community to glory before retiring in 2012. We continue to pray for his eternal rest following his passing away in April 2022.

Leading with the Joy of Hope Born in 1951, Bishop Devprasad was ordained for the Society of the Divine Word in 1982. After serving as the Bishop of Jhabua, he was appointed to lead our diocese by Pope Benedict XVI. Since his installation in February 2013, he has guided us under the motto "The Joy of Hope." His leadership focuses on building a culture of equality, nurturing the youth, and ensuring that our ancient traditions continue to inspire our modern lives.

Fr. Babu Chirayath Antony
Pastoral Leadership: Our Dedicated Shepherd

Our Parish Priest

At the heart of Our Lady of Fatima Cathedral is a commitment to spiritual guidance and academic excellence. Our parish is led by a shepherd who brings a wealth of pastoral experience and a deep scholarly understanding of the Scriptures to our community. By fostering an environment of learning and prayer, he ensures that the Cathedral remains a place where faith is both lived and understood.

On June 10, 2025, we welcomed Fr. Babu Chirayath Antony as our Parish Priest. Originally from Kerala, Fr. Babu was ordained in 1993 and has since dedicated his life to the growth of the Church in India. Before joining us in Udaipur, he spent thirteen years shaping the Diocesan Pastoral Centre in Banswara and served the faithful in Kankroli, Bhilwara, and Chittorgarh.
